Supernatural: four episodes...
May. 12th, 2010 10:20 pmTonight I sat down with
- Loved the beginning, with Zachariah in the bar. Zachariah briefly became interesting again.
- What's this with Adam becoming a potential vessel for Lucifer? I thought this might happen to Ben, since he's on the right side of the bloodline (by which I mean being Mary's grandson), and, you know, alive, but Adam? If the Michael brigade can take any random Winchester and raise him from the dead to be Michael's vessel, why not take John's father, or great-grandfather from the grave?
- Adam seemed a dweeb anyway.
- Loved, loved, loved the whole conversation between Dean and Zachariah, and Dean's turning the tables. That was worthy of John Constantine at his best. No, no, thanks to some poor writing on that comic, that was better than John Constantine at his best.
- The dialogue has suddenly improved, and they've finally stopped treating Castiel like comedy.
Hammer of the Gods - It felt as if Neil Gaiman wrote this episode. I loved the inclusion of Kali and Baldur. Loved it that Gabriel/Trickster was posing as Loki. Loved it that the pagan gods were resentful of the Christian faith. I loved lots of things about this one, but there were levels of "this just doesn't make sense". Why were the gods cannibalistic?
- Looks as if Gabriel really is dead. Damn. I liked him. Dare I hope he'll return?
- Dean wasn't at his smartest, but I think the Winchester psychology is making more sense than it did for a while there.
- Who was the blonde goddess?
- I still don't like Lucifer, but that was a good scene. And: Lucy, I'm home. Those writers have no shame.
The Devil You Know - Crowley, back and better than ever. I can't remember much about his last appearance. Shifty devil - and more fun than the other demons.
- I totally loved seeing Crowley send his Hellhound after the other Hellhound.
- Fun to see Matt Frewer as Pestilence.
Two Minutes to Midnight - Death was great. Loved his conversation over pizza with Dean.
In general... - Nice to see the rapport back between Sam and Dean.
- "Erotic codependence" of the Winchester brothers? Woo, I can't believe they said that!
- Better writing than we'd been having; not perfect, not deep, not up to Fourth Season in terms of plot development and suspense, but witty and entertaining.
- Loved the way the four rings glommed together. What's Dean going to do with them?
- I'm glad Castiel is alive. Loved it when he apologized to Dean for underestimating him.
- How are they going to tie up this story in just one hour?
