I encountered this item on CBC radio:
the Mother-of-All-Beaver Dams. It's in Wood Buffalo National Park and is 850 meters long, about the size of the Hoover Dam. It's so big it's visible from outer space. It's so big, if you tipped it up on its edge, it would be 40 percent taller than the CN Tower.
How busy those beavers must be.

I looked up Wood Buffalo National Park and found a picture of the dam. Yes, big.

And so very Canadian. Do other countries have news items about beaver dams?

We mostly don't have news re: dams, but every spring there are news items having to do with a beaver or two wreaking havoc where they should not be (it's the second-year pups being kicked out and looking for a new home that get into trouble). For two consecutive years, a stubborn beaver tried to move into the botanical gardens in the town I live (in the center of the town, but of course on the river bank), and kept trying to creep back after every eviction. This spring I've already read about a beaver that beat up a dog that went to sniff it and about another one that tried to visit first a bank, then a casino in a smaller town and then decided to have a bath in a fountain between the two aforementioned buildings:)
