Day One...

Day One on the new job is over. It was okay. No exploding photocopiers, no murdering sex aliens. I have a lot of names in my head now, and new faces, and not much certainty as to how to match them up. Only one thing went wrong; I couldn't figure out how to make a phone call, and had to ask, feeling like a dummy. But I managed to forward a call (which was, luckily, to the only extension I had memorized), and deal with mail, and I feel a little more confident.
And then when they turned on my computer and I discovered it was Vista, I quailed. I've never used Vista. I'm not even sure how to use the "help" features on Vista. But... you know, from what I learned to day, I rather like it.
So much to learn. But as I left, the head of the department said she was really glad I was there, and that was a boost to my spirits.
Tired but happy now. And game to learn a whole new phone system, whole new OS on my computer, whole new kinds of photocopiers, office protocol, interlocking departments (and some that don't interlock at all), but... I'm up for it. Really.
