Every time I have to phone the Employment Insurance people (whom I still, in my mind, think of as UIC, or Unemployment Insurance Canada), I do it with nervousness and dismay. Because it's bureaucracy? Because it's government? Really, these people are giving me money, so I shouldn't fear them. Logically. But feelings are feelings.
And every time I call, like this morning, they are kind and nice and carefully explain whatever it is I needed to call them about without any condescension at all. Even when I deserve it. I'm a moron when it comes to filling out their forms, but they never say so, or even imply it. They are efficient and friendly.
So... next time I have to phone will I still dread it?
Probably.
