I went to a Christmas concert his evening, "Vespers and Carols" by the Musica Viva Singers and Harmonia Choir of Ottawa. I knew about it because [livejournal.com profile] duncanmac is in the choir, and I love Christmas music. While there I saw both [livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala and Hildegarde. It was in a lovely church, St. Matthew's in the Glebe, and the acoustics were perfect. The place was packed.

They started out with Mendelssohn and Mozart, and then did some carols and more modern music. I really liked John Rutter's Christmas Lullaby, and the closing Auld Lang Syne, which was not the tune we're all used to - according to the conductor, it was an earlier version, though I can't find it online.

I was a little afraid to walk to the church in the snow, with my recent ankle mishaps, but that's sheer cowardice. [livejournal.com profile] maaseru drove me there, and I walked home with no problem whatsoever - it was, in fact, a beautiful night.
