Today I read Finger Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich - the latest Stephanie Plum novel.

I started it yesterday. On my way home from seeing Lyn, I noticed that the the woman in the seat behind me on the bus was also reading it - and also reading a public library edition.

Are all the Stephanie Plums lighter than balloons? I remember some of them, at least, as having a little more substance, or plot... Or maybe not. Frankly, all I tend to remember is Ranger, which shows where my attention is. Ranger, if you don't know, is Stephanie's sexy and mysterious friend who (currently) runs a security agency. He must be one of the sexiest men in fiction. And Stephanie spends most of this book sleeping in Ranger's bed, but not having sex with him despite the temptation. In the end, she hooks up again with Morelli. Has that woman no taste?

There are two themes in this one - so think I hestitate to call them plots. In one, Ranger's security company has a leak and houses with his security system are being burgled. He calls Stephanie in to help him figure it out. In the other, Stephanie's friend Lula witnesses a decapitation and the killers want to eliminate her, the only eyewitness. Luckily, the ineptitude of the bad guys is equalled by the ineptitude of the good guys. And Joyce Barnhardt is chasing after Morelli again.

There are lots of funny bits, and it's giving no suprises away to say that Stephanie's car gets blown up at least once, and her gun-totin' Granny Mazur is on the scene helping Lula make barbecue sauce.

Rompishly fun.
