Blue Sheep Reverie...
Nov. 14th, 2009 06:25 pmBlue Sheep Reverie by Makoto Tateno caught my eye in the comic shop last week, but they only had volume 2. Today I saw and bought vol. 1 at the amine store on Merivale Rd.
I think I'm a Makoto Tateno fan now.
Often, if and when I buy a yaoi manga because I like the cover, the story doesn't live up to expectation. This has made me generally suspicious of the genre. But this time, I enjoyed the story thoroughly - loved the way it kept pulling twists and surprises. Loved the tough but innocent Kai and the powerful, needy Lehti.
The first scene really caught my attention: an attractive young man named Kai accosts a man named Lehti on the street of a large, unnameable city, putting a knife to his throat and begging him to hire him as his bodguard. So Lehti shoots Kai in the leg. Ah, the beginning of a beautiful relationsip. The story continues as a murder mystery, with convoluted identities, political intrigue, assassins, boy love, and a whiff of het incest.
Now I'm looking forward to volume 2.
