Remembrance Day...

Today I made a point of remembering not just the Canadians and allies who died over the past century (and earlier) in various wars. I started thinking about the people who died in any numbers of wars of the past, especially the wars that interest me historically: the Crusades, the Roman Legions and their victims, the Greeks who fought Persians and the Persians who fought Greeks at Thermopylae and Marathon and Salamis... and so on. So many deaths by violence.
And no end to it, since as a race we seem to accept war more than ever.
It was a good day, and a busy one. I slept later than I intended, and went with

Lynne, who is both a good friend and my personal trainer, came over, as did my longtime friend Lisa. Lynne carefully taught me some exercies with weights that shouldn't hurt my back, and both she and Lisa seemed somewhat shocked by how much mobility I've lost in the past six months. As well as how swollen my bad ankle is. When she weighed me, Lynne scolded me (quite rightly) for my weight gain, but the good news is that I've lost two pounds this week. Go me.
The lunch I made (super-fast) was Oat Pilaf, Bean Salad, Waldorf Salad, all from the cookbook American Whole Foods Cuisine, which is one of my favourite cookbooks. As well as Lemon-Cranberry Bread, cauliflower salad, multigrain crackers, and clementines. Lynne told us about her recent trip cycling around Provence; she had a good time, but liked last year's cycling trip to Tuscany better.
After they left, and after cleaning up and doing my exercises for the chiropractor, I walked down to the Silver Snail for this week's comics. It wasn't a week in which any of my very favourites had come in, though I was pleased to see another issue of Red Robin.
Anyone here know anything about a yaoi manga called Blue Sheep Reverie?
After buying comics, I went to the Foster's Bicycle Shop at Bank and McLaren, and got reflective arm bands and a reflective triangle to put on my back pack. When it gets dark so early, I feel the need to be visible.
I enjoyed the walk - I don't get to walk nearly enough these days. It wasn't exactly pain-free, but it was pleasant nonetheless. I hope days like this start coming more often.
