Supernatural: Changing Channels...
Nov. 5th, 2009 11:45 pmWith "Changing Channels" the clever-quotient rose. I see that Jeremy Carver also wrote "Mystery Spot" and "A Very Supernatural Christmas", the first having the Trickster, the second following the pagan-demigod theme.
But the Trickster, it turns out, isn't a pagan demigod, but the Angel Gabriel. Woo. Didn't see that one coming. But I did wonder where Gabriel was hiding. Why hasn't Michael shown himself? Or has he shown himself, in a guise we couldn't recognize?
- Loved the opening credits, especially the font used. For some reason, seeing Misha Collins' name in that context really cracked me up.
- Loved Dean's reaction to Dr. McSexy. And his whole "guilty pleasure" attitude to the show.
- Loved each of Castiel's appearances, for all he didn't have much dialogue. But... don't I always? Loved it too that he gave the clue that allowed Dean to figure out what might be going on, and to deal with it.
- Insofar as they did deal with it. But what could they do? They can't control Gabriel, or stop him.
- For a while there, from the way Dean called him a son of a bitch, I thought the Trickster was going to turn out to be Zachariah. I was rather pleased to be wrong. Nice twist there.
- The game show was a particularly interesting bit of meta-textual commentary. Fun.
- Loved the way the sitcom house was like their hotel room.
- Loved the way we never actually learned what happened to Castiel, just saw him become more battered each scene. The duct tape over his mouth was good. Castiel, looking for Dean, not finding him - ! Angel torture.
- The Incredibly Hulk. Heh. I love the show's references. Especially Dean's question: "Bana or Norton?"
