Supernatural: Free to Be You and Me...

This episode was a delightful birthday present from the television gods just for me. Oh, Castiel. That angel gets better all the time.
Mind you, the episode should have been named "Daddy Issues". "Angel in a Whorehouse". Points of interest:
- The ending, with Dean talking about how happy he was, broke my heart. Made me want to cry for him. Did Castiel run off to get Sam back for him? Since Dean is helping him find God, it would make sense that he's want to help Dean get his family together again, too.
- Also loved Dean's speech to Castiel about Daddy issues, and having faith in his belief that his father was alive whatever anyone else said. Dean at his best.
- And I particularly loved Dean calling Raphael a "ninja turtle".
- Liked Sam cutting lemons while Dean was attacking the monster. Woo, wotta scene. Parallels. Juxtaposition is all.
- I didn't understand the comments about Sam's first name being Keith. Is there something wrong with the names Sam and Keith I don't know about? (Sam Keith is an artist I find ... interesting.)
- Dean to Castiel: "Cas, we talked about this. Personal space." I laughed.
- Castiel to Dean: "I need your help because you are the only one who will help me. Please." Oh, Castiel! (I love saying that.) And so much in the body language with him, always. And Dean's. "All right, fine."
- Why on earth was Sam letting that girl interrogate him? How stupid is he? Was he really so desperate for someone to talk to? Or for sex? He was perfectly capable of walking away - why didn't he?
- At first Raphael seemed a little lacklustre for a mighty Archangel, but when he warmed up - powerful. Loved the wings. Love the weather effects. And now we better know the Angel's motivation.
- Dean has the knack of insulting angels down to an art. And Castiel is proving an able acolyte when it comes to vernacular insult and invective. Loved it when he said to Raphael, "Today you're my little bitch."
- I always love Castiel's confusion about humans. Dean: "When humans really want something, they lie." Castiel: "Why?" Castiel as an FBI agent had me howling.
- Castiel in the whorehouse... No, it didn't go as I thought it would, but close to. Daddy issues! Loved the line, "This is a den of iniquity." And Dean's responses. And the way he laughed afterwards.
- It may just be my partiality for the characters, but I thought the Sam portion of the plot didn't have even half the oomph of the Dean portion of the plot. I want those brothers together again, and soon, I hope.
- For instance, I thought it was way too obvious (given what we saw with Nick in "Sympathy for the Devil") that Jessica was Lucifer. Of course, Sam had no way of knowing what Lucifer had done to Nick... I liked the way he held out. I'm still hoping he won't be Lucifer's vessel, just as I'm hoping Dean won't be Michael's.
- Loved the way Castiel tracked down and trapped Raphael.
- It makes sense, that the Hunters would be miffed with Sam for not just starting the mess (which he didn't) but for refusing to help them clean up (which he did). Nevertheless, I kept expecting their eyes to go black. It's like last week's issue: humans turning on each other.
- I'd love to see a list of references to popular media in the show. (Like the cop calling Dean "Kolchak" this episode.)
-
explodedteabag remarked that Marc Pellegrino should play John Constantine. Good thought. And another full-circle thing, since Misha Collins is playing a Constantine-inspired character.
- "Worked for the post office, did he?" Heh.
Since I was clueless about the title of the episode of Supernatural last week, I looked it up this week. "Free to Be You and Me". I then looked it up on YouTube and got a lot of hits for this episode. How... circular.
