Another set 'o fannish stuff....
Sep. 27th, 2003 04:43 pmThis one, I got from
lmondegreen, who said, "Fannish Five grokked from ckr":
1) What is your guaranteed squick when you're reading fic?
Hurt/comfort (though I know this depends on definition of the genre, but as I understand the term, it squicks me)
MPREG
punctuation and grammatical errors
2) Name an actor or actress you can't slash without squicking.
Well, any actor or actress whom I don't like. To name names would probably be to insult someone else's fandom, so I won't go there.
3) Name a song that you can't stand to see used for a songvid -- it just doesn't work, there are too many done to it or for whatever other reason.
Huh? Anything could work, given a good idea and good vidding skills. I think the choice of song is not the relevant thing - it's the choice of *idea*, the way the song and the visuals are put together, that makes or breaks a songvid.
4) What is your biggest pet peeve with con hotels? (any con, any hotel)
Being so far away geographically I can't go to them.
5) Name something about fandom on livejournal that gets on your nerves?
Nothing. If it gets on my nerves, I stop reading.
No. I take that back. It gets on my nerves when people are complaining about a show I like. I got really tired of "what's wrong with Smallville entires" for a while. I understood what was happening and why, but I didn't like it, and it made me uncomfortable.

Why? What definition do you use? I always thought it was character A is hurt, and character B comforts/cares for him or nurses him back to health. What's squicky about that? (signed, curious)

You and me both, sister! I'm glad I missed most of those! I have my gripes about the show, but never about the CLex, which is still there in spades if folks would just bother to look for it!

Hurt/comfort squicks me mostly because I don't like seeing my characters hurt - that's the easy explanation - and if they're hurt I want them to be stoic and brave and not being nursed or comforted. Also the level of pain/illness required for h/c seems unsexy to me - and I don't like anything to get between my characters and their mutual sexual attraction.
There are more reasons than that but they aren't so easy to articulate. Let's just say... I've had a lot of illness and the need for being taken care of in my life and I really don't like reading that as a theme in fic. Uncomfortable memories.
I've had my problems with some Smallville episodes too, but that doesn't stop me from being unconfortable with some of the commens I've read. Yes, I think the Clex is wonderful, always.
