"Torchwood was designed as a digital weapon."

What a great description.

Davies must be the most arrogant bastard in television and I love him for it.1 It's easy for me to be amused by his comments, because I loved Torchwood Children of Earth and don't have any complaints about how the story went or what it portends for the future.

Re fans upset over Torchwood Children of Earth: "I'm glad they're typing because they’re that involved. But if you can’t handle drama you shouldn't watch it." To which I would argue - even though I thought Torchwood Children of Earth was great - that being able to handle drama isn't the issue: the issue is enjoying it or not enjoying it. They could hate Torchwood and still love Macbeth. Don't fob responsibility for the story so glibly, Davies: it isn't "drama" they didn't like, it's the story you wrote they object to.

That being said, on a basic level, I agree with Davies here: caveat emptor is the unspoken premise of all art, literature and entertainment: nothing comes with a guarantee of satisfaction. Nothing. And nothing will ever appeal to everyone. You're ahead of the game if anyone likes something - some of the time.

On Ianto's death: "It would devalue the entire plot if we brought him back." I agree. I'm not sure that I trust the writers or the BBC on that account - they have no qualms about devaluing things when they want to. I thought it would devalue Rose's relationship with the Doctor if they brought her back after "Doomsday". Guess what? They brought her back after "Doomsday", and, yup, I thought it devalued the relationship. Win some, lose some.

On Supernatural: "I thank them for watching [Torchwood] and [if they don't like what happened] I recommend they go watch Supernatural, because those boys are beautiful. And don’t tell me they’re brothers. Not in my mind." Well, Russell, you're in good company there, but me? I go for the Dean/Castiel slash, myself.

And the part I most potently believe, about the next stage of Torchwood: "It's literally too soon. I don’t know yet." I don't think he does know, and when he does, it won't stay a secret for long.

What I like is that he didn't say "if" there's a continuation of the story: that went without saying. Given the ratings, I should hope so.

1 I actually don't mean that that. I'm sure there are more arrogant bastards in television, none with the same talent and wit.
