Fat Tuesday...
Sep. 26th, 2003 09:19 pmDiane and I ate dinner at "Fat Tuesday", a restaurant on York Street in the market. It's in one of those old grey-stone buildings where they leave parts of the stone wall bare in the interior, and all of it on the exterior. Inside the decor is modern trendy New Orleans - the bathroom, all in red and black, was particularly fun: it made me smile.
I had a pina colada - I've been partial to rum drinks every since "Pirates of the Caribbean". Diane had a margarita, her current drink of choice, and that made me think happily of the last time I had maragaritas: in Chicago with my wonderful fannish friends there, in February. I had calamari for appetizer and pasta with wild mushrooms and herbs as the main dish. They had my favorite dessert on the menu, creme brulee: for perhaps the first time in my life, I passed it up, and instead shared pecan pie with Diane.
Pecan pie aside, she has been getting in shape by dieting and going to Curves and she looks terrific.
One of the best things about a person who has known you all your life is that they know what you like. Diane's birthday present to me was the DVD of The Pajama Game, a wonderful musical starring Doris Day and John Raitt. I've always loved that one.... I notice from the box that the choreography is by Bob Fosse, which I'd forgotten, if I ever knew it.
