james_nicoll has a link to a nice snarky comment by Andrew Wheeler about the Libertarian Futurist Society giving a Prometheus Award to The Lord of the Rings:

The Libertarian Futurist Society has honored a lot of works with different political leanings before, but I don't think they've ever come down in favor of the divine right of kings before.

The Lord of the Rings is one of my favourite books ever, but I don't think of it as futuristic. I love it for its understanding of the past.
