My Faith in Frankie...
Jun. 23rd, 2009 09:47 pmI read another Mike Carey story today: My Faith in Frankie, about a seventeen-year old girl named Frankie, who has her own private god, named Jeriven, who gives her a charmed life. But Jeriven wants to protect her from boys, and Frankie doesn't want to be protected from them. With some help from her best friend Kay, Frankie sets out to discover sex... but her chosen dreamboat, Dean, turns out to be a demon from hell with a plot to bring her (and Jeriven) down.
I enjoyed the whole thing, but the part that had me crowing in joy was the ending. At the end of the story, demonic Dean is defeated, Kay and Jeriven save Frankie, and we get this page of dialogue:
Way cool. Why do I have to choose? - a question that always resonates with me! Chalk Frankie up as one of the cool bisexual heroines of comics. Makes me happy, it does.

Kay: How do you feel, Frankie? So then Frankie, Jeriven and Kay go to live together happily ever after in California.
Frankie: Like a complete moron. I fell for Dean's line just because he had a cute ass.
Jeriven: It wasn't as cute as all that. Was it?
Kay: We've all been stupid. I mean, me and Jeriven have been in love with you all this time and we've never even told you. Then he had some stupid idea about asking you to choose.
Frankie: That is pretty stupid.
Kay: I know. But I'm never gonna make a pass at you or...
Frankie: Why the hell do I have to choose? [She kisses Kay, to Jeriven's surprise.]
