fajrdrako: ([Supernatural] - Castiel)
[personal profile] fajrdrako

Watched three episodes of Supernatural this evening with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and [livejournal.com profile] explodedteabag. These were:

  • 1x17 - "Hell House" - A silly plot, but I liked the ongoing pranks the brothers played.
  • 1x18 - "Something Wicked" - Brilliant, especially the flashbacks to young Dean and Sammy. And we saw John - always a high point for me. Loved the spooky fingers of the striga.
  • 1x19 - "Provenance" - Interesting plot; I liked the way it kept twisting. There's so much emphasis on Sam in season 1, and Dean is shown as less attractive than he later became - and I don't mean his looks, but his manner, his dialogue, his attitude.

I like to imagine Castiel watching the Winchester boys through these early episodes....

Saw still more trailers for Thursday's show, which [livejournal.com profile] explodedteabag had unearthed. Can hardly wait till Thursday!

Also, on top of the LJ comment? I must say I <3 Sarah. But of course, nobody who's good for the boys can stick around...

I think that's one of the reasons I liked her. She looked absolutely doll-like... and then showed guts than most girls (I mean plain human girls) that ever appear on the show. >.>

Heh. I think Ruby's a skank, and possibly Meg's demon. And possibly working in team with Lilith. But that's just speculation. And I have a few gripes with Anna, although half of them stem from major antipathy to the actress, who has been handed some sold gold lines and has turned them to muck. >.> (But Dean likes the angel... thing. Silly boy.)

I agree 100% on Ellen, though. *wants Ellen and Jo back on the show. Badly*

... actually, the part where she's a skank is canon, the rest isn't. Ruby just showed up in 3x01, and after what happens in Born under a Bad Sign, if that's true and known to Sam, his reactions to Ruby would have been very, VERY different. In fact, Ruby gives no explanations, not good ones anyway. (Because "I remember what it was like to be human, and that's why I'm helping you" doesn't cut it, for me.)

*sighs* I don't... heh. I actually trust Anna to act reasonably way more than I like her. Of course, she has her own agenda, too, so 'reasonably' doesn't exactly equal 'in the best interest of Sam, Dean, and/or Castiel', but it's more than many characters on this show can be relied on to do. >.> But I don't like her much at all. Either visually or ... as acting skill. I think that last bit may be the core of my dislike, though. She could've been a much better character.

Heh. It's interesting that Jensen first auditioned for Sam. (and after having seen him as Ben in Dark Angel, I can see why they called him in for THAT part). But for me, the dynamic of Sam and Dean snapped from the pilot. Complete with routines that run deep, like the Bitch-Jerk one. >.> Which I love to BITS. And for me it snapped immediately. They were brothers, who'd been away for three years or whatever, and they were different, but they'd spent their lives together and had their backs, every single way. In the pilot. After that, it was smooth sailing. Until Deus Ex Daylight, a.k.a. Bugs, I mean.

Hee I still haven't seen the latest X-men. >.> but heh. ;) and yes, I do think that Ruby and Anna will be killed off. Possibly Ruby next week, Anna... maybe early next season, since I don't see them doing an off-stage death for her. Ahem. But yeah, I don't much like Anna, visually, while Ruby ... she's a strong personality (and yes, that personality makes me think of Meg, on top of the whole blood thing) ... and I'll be punching air if I prove to be right. Though... poor Sam. Poor, poor Sam.

I certainly enjoyed S1 of Dark Angel. S2... so far... I want to strangle some of the writers. Crappy lines, bad execution of good ideas. Breaking of the characterization of BOTH the s1 main characters, one more, the other less. The overall plot arc is ambitious, but I don't think it actually gets fully resolved. On the brighter side, man, I love Jensen Ackles. They did give him a good character to play, both the insane Ben in S1, and the adorable and infuriating Alec in S2. But other than him, S2 isn't easy for me to watch at all. I can kinda see why it was cancelled. >.>

Yeaaaah, seeing the pilot after all of that, I can see the... difference. I am very, very much impressed, having seen things mostly in order (I was mostly through s1 when I saw 4x01), how well they built up to where the boys are at the moment. Quite honestly, I don't see them making ANY of their S4 choices other than what they did, in those circumstances, either of the boys. And that's saying something about the consistency of the characters and the writing. Then again. Kripke has a pretty good idea about what he's doing, and it shows. I would bet that watching s4 and the going back is an entirely different experience. I know that in every single episode this season there are references back, ranging from phrasing to entire set-ups, and I LOVE them. Missing them would probably miss and entire layer to the episodes, which... heh. After you finish the first 3 seasons, rewatch s4 for those?

Mmph. Dean wants to KILL HER RIGHT NOW so my thinking is clouded, but then, I've hated her a lot since seeing Jus in Bello. That's separate from Dean's reactions to her, which range. (I also do think it's Anna, not Ana, as per all the character listings.)

I do not regret watching it, because it's obviously... well, it's gone to underly a lot of pop culture in subtle ways, that I can now place the source of. And Max and Logan are awesome characters first season, and Alec - and, at times, Joshua, and a few of the others - are good in S2. But heh.

Yes yes yes. I watch all of three shows, really - DW/TW, Supernatural, and The Mentalist. All three are very, VERY well written. Maybe that's another reason why I get irked at DA - It could be so much better. Ahem. And yes. Although I do think that it would be good if next season is the last. Mostly because the arc needs closure.

Well, "Anna" is based on this (if you click on the image, you can see it magnified) which is from the episode?

*sighs* The Mentalist is exquisitely well-written textbook guide about Sorcerers. And part of the thing they do is manipulate opinions and behaviour. So if one isn't looking underneath the surface, yes, it's boring. Shiny glittery - and Simon Baker is a certain kind of pretty. And... nothing special. Until one sees how subtly he handles great amounts of pressure on people, and how broken, and DARK, a person he is. >.>

*nods* Yeah, I'm so used to her being Anna from RP and fics that I was blinking at your first comment with Ana. >.> I know, I can be weird sometimes.
