I saw the trailer for the Smallville season opener, Exile. I was pleased to see that it features Chloe. I have been avoiding spoilers to an irrational degree (and have still heard a few) and I'm sorry to see Clark is still under the influence of the ring, though it's nice to see the Metropolis setting.
But I really don't like red!Clark. I'm sure no one would let him into the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Date: 2003-09-10 07:05 pm (UTC)What I like about Clark isn't his looks, it's his innocence and charm and his sense of humour. Red!Clark has none of that - so what's to like? This goes double if we're talking about slash, since Lex has a corner on the the moral ambiguity thing and I love the contrast between cunning Lex and sweet Clark. Cunning Lex and conniving Clark just isn't the same....

Date: 2003-09-10 08:44 pm (UTC)But I remember the images -- Lex, naked (or, at least, shirtless) and rolling in tropical vegetation; Chloe, with a classy-looking shorter hairstyle; Lana, hooked up to Chloe with an earpiece (cellular phone? walkie-talkie?); no Pete, Ma, or Pa in sight; lots of images of Clark in his fancy black button-up shirt, looking feckless and self-absorbed. There's a plot in there somewhere, hm? The image of Clark throwing Chloe up against the wall was somewhat alarming.
I'm trusting that there'll be more substance to it than just the narrow suggestion of plot that was shown in the preview... hoping, that is, I'm hoping. We haven't been let down yet, right? Keep hoping.

The Smallville trailers generally show a lot of action, precious little plot.

Date: 2003-09-11 12:37 am (UTC)Well, of course not! They had to keep their numbers down for tax purposes, and the extra spots were filled by Bouncing Boy and Matter-Eater Lad (and Dream Girl-bah)!
I'm not certain if these tidbits about Smallville's current direction makes me want to tune in (hard to do with my work schedule) or sigh in relief that I haven't *been* tuning in. Long term red!Clark? That would *seem* to mess with the Clark an' Lex dynamic that's so much fun.
Of course, if I *did* turn it on, I'd have no clue what was going on...

Date: 2003-09-11 05:51 pm (UTC)That could explain a lot. So how did Insect Queen get in there?
You didn't like Dream Girl? I started out not liking her, but by the end of my time as Legion fan she was one of my favourites. I lived the Bierbaum version of Tenzil Kem too. (In fact, I used to write stories making Tenzil Kem and Nura Nal lovers. When I wasn't writing slash.)
I'm not sure how 'long-term' the red!Clark theme is, but there've been two episodes in the past and at least one more to come. I agree with you that it messes with the Clark/Lex dynamic.
You know that if you did tune in, you could always ask what's going on, and I'd be happy to tell you.
