Silence

Gallifrey was gone. What was there now but wilderness?

The Doctor regenerated to silence. His place in the weave of time was reduced to a single strand, disconnected from the loom of life. His was the lingering note left in the symphony of the Time Lords. Dead air.

No one else left. His past and future selves were angry.

"You're a coward," sniffed one, knowing how he wanted to die.

"You can't die," said a moppy-haired youth. "If you do, I'll never live."

"Just carry on," said another. "Places to see, people to save. Allons-y!"

"No," he whispered, and survived.
