I've never done a silent retreat, but I'd like to. I've been seriously thinking about it. Or... some sort of retreat.

I like to talk, but on a limited basis (timespan established beforehand) I can't imagine I'd have a problem with it. Though some people laugh when I say so, I'm really a quiet person.

Mind you, the point of a silent retreat is not to do it because it's easy. The point is to do it anyway, easy or difficult.

I think I could live forever in a silent retreat. A circumstance in which no one is looking at me "encouragingly" (I hate that facial expression, it burns and humiliates) trying to get me to talk? Oh, yes.

Yes, I know you have talking difficulties. I am shy with people I don't know, but usually talking is not a problem. Silence is not a problem either - depending on venue.

When I have to talk too much, and to too many people, I find it exhausting. But anyone would.

I suspect it'd be like when the lights go out. Although you couldn't think of a thing before, one immediately finds dozens of urgent things to do, all requiring the electricity one [hopefully temporarily] no longer has.

Yes. And the trick is to get beyond that - to reprogram the brain to not expect what it used to expect. That's the challenge!
