fajrdrako: ([Doctor Who] - Eleven)

BBC Radio's online "Newsbeat" posted text of an interview with John Barrowman in which he is asked whether he will be appearing in Doctor Who with the Eleventh Doctor. He replied:
Jack will always return to the Tardis if the doctor is in need to help save the planet or conquer an alien race trying to invade. That's all I can say. You know how secretive we are.
I take this to actually mean, "I'd love to, but they haven't asked me yet." But I like it that this is the official line - that the connection between the Doctor and Jack isn't being severed, that the TARDIS and the Doctor will always have their place in Jack's life.

It would be a crime to leave Jack out of the adventures of the Eleventh Doctor. Really. They wouldn't do that to us - to him - they just wouldn't.

I can't wait til Torchwood starts =)

Me too. The problem when they don't release the air date ahead of time is that we can't count days. Two and a half months now, maybe?

I've always loved a similar quote from JB, in a different interview:

"Jack will always be there when the Doctor needs him."

He said it at the time as a roundabout way of indicating (without answering directly) that he was indeed going to be in the S4 finale. But it's also such a perfect summation of Jack and how the character clearly feels about the Doctor, it really made me say, "Aaawww!"

That's perfect. I love it. (Tenacious Jack/Doctor shipper that I am.)

I should think so. The Doctor is a foundation of Jack's life and I woudln't want the producers and writers to forget that. They don't need to refer to it all the time, but it mustn't be forgotten.

Ditto! :D

I'm not sure about the DW/TW writers, but it always makes me happy that John Barrowman seems to have such a solid idea of what makes Jack tick -- and that he's very conscious of such things when he plays the part. Actor win! :D

Oddly, I think the DW writers have a more solid grasp of Jack than some of the Torchwood writers. Which is a way, I suppose, of saying that some of the Torchwood writers aren't very good, or they don't have the same priorities that I do, or they don't have much interest in strong, consistent characterization. The DW writers at least have a motive for seeing Jack primarily in connection with the Doctor, and I love that. The "saving the world" thing gets a little more emphasized than usual, too.

Absolutely. He's in many ways more committed to the character he plays, and more creative with it, than just about any actor I have seen. I'm thinking of things like singing "The Doctor and I" in concert (how I love him for that!) and writing the "Captain Jack and the Selkie" comic. He shows what a handle he has on Captain Jack, and why his acting tends to be spot-on even when the written script is questionable.

That is good to hear although I was already making that assumption. I want Jack's primary focus to be Torchwood, but that doesn't mean he can't pop over to the TARDIS and help The Doctor occasionally. (Also I am guessing- although I could easily be wrong- that Doctor Who will outlast Torchwood in which case I'll REALLY want to see Jack on the TARDIS.)

This was also a great quote:
I've always grown up with the ethic that my parents gave me that work creates work and the more that you're working the more work will come to you.

Have you seen this other interview: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5hro3RWz9oBTSM3d8GWQ470cw3HsA
It's rather tabloid-ish (John "cheating" on the Doctor), but I loved his speculation of what Capt. Jack would do on a talent show:
"I think he would probably want to do something acrobatic. In fact we had an acrobat troupe on and they had to kick me off the trampoline! I think that would be Jack's thing - he would love that challenge."

I think it's true. But the man has infinite energy. Did you hear the comments from David Tennant and Catherine Tate before they interviewed him?
Tennant: I don't know what he'll talk about. He only has three or four projects coming up.
Tate: Must be a slow week.

Yes, well. The Innuendo Squad is alive and well and lives in John Barrowman's vicinity.

Well, that's true whether it's on the show or not. (I'd like to see the show(s) try and change that! *rabid fangirl goes grrrrr*)

Although, in my fanon, Jack and Ten have a lot more time to be there for each other. *hides in fanfic as necessary*

Absolutely! And I love it when they make something of it.

in my fanon, Jack and Ten have a lot more time to be there for each other.

Of course. Time is at the Time Lord's command. They could spend all the time they want together, and who would know? Jack only has to come back to Torchwood shortly after he leaves.

Works for me.

Yes, it can be fit into canon. I'm perfectly happy to shove canon out of my way when I feel like it, though -- hence my first fic. And I'm working on a post-LOTTL crossover with Torchwood that'll Joss canon completely. (What? I can Joss if I say I can ;) )

(If I had my way, Ten(nant) would have a helluva lot longer incarnation than anybody else. He deserves it :) )

I look forward to your story. LOTTL needs fixing, in my opinion.

I loved Tennant as Ten but I'm sure I'll love Eleven too.

I read somewhere that the next DW special will be in November, with the final two airing on Xmas Day and New Year's Day respectively... and that the TW 3 (along with Sarah Jane) will be in the last two.

There will also be nightmare sequences...

Eeek!

Maybe "Journey's End" was a nightmare! (Well, it was for some of us ;) )

Yes, "Journey's End" was pretty nightmarish... Especially, in the end, for Donna.
