Second Chance

Gwen died on the pier.

Then she woke in Owen's arms with a sense of loss. He held her, rocked her, murmuring, "It's okay, it's okay."

Was it okay? She could see Jack, Webley in hand, looking down at Suzie. He'd killed Suzie for Gwen's sake. Stupidly, Gwen wished it were Jack holding her, not Owen. Her head hurt, like the time she'd been hit over the head at that pub, right before seeing a Weevil that first time. Her life had turned upside down then, too.

Owen said, "Gwen? Next time remember: never, never let the dead person drive."
