Supernatural: Castiel...
Apr. 6th, 2009 04:01 pmPerhaps I might explain exactly how
"You know, Supernatural has a John Constantine character in it now."
This caught my attention big-time. "It does?"
"Uh-huh. Trench coat, the look, everything. He's not blond. But he's very like Constantine."
Of course that caught my interest. If you aren't familiar with John Constantine in DC comics, the character who closely resembles him is Castiel, who is remarkably like him in look, style, characterization - everything. Don't be misled by thoughts of Keanu Reeves; I'm talking about the 'real' Constantine. Though I suppose Castiel is a lot nicer, and not rough or scruffy enough. And John Constantine in the comics doesn't have wings. Still. Very close.

See also this quote from the Supernatural wiki: "Misha Collins who plays Castiel reports that "Kripke wanted to base the look of the character on the comic book character 'Constantine'". No kidding.
After we watched it, when I was enthusing over the character of Castiel,
Guess not.
I have my weaknesses and they are utterly transparent.
I see people are already writing Dean/Castiel slash. Inevitably.

Date: 2009-04-06 08:16 pm (UTC)Heh, makes a lot of sense, seeing as they're also writing Dean/Captain Jack slash.

Ears prick up.
Where?
(No, I am not tempted... oh, hell, who am I fooling, yes I am.)

Me too, but that doesn't stop me from occasionally writing them!

Date: 2009-04-06 08:35 pm (UTC)I haven't seen much of him - I gather he has more appearances I've yet to see in Supernatural. I am intrigued because (a) I love John Constantine, and (b) I love tough and dangerous warrior angels. He has aspects of both. This delights me.
Or if you are asking why I'd want Jack/Castiel rather than Ianto/Castiel, it's just that I'm not comparatively very interested in Ianto, except maybe when I write him. How's that for solipsistic? It's just that, the way most fans write Ianto, I don't find him very interesting, even when the story is interesting itself. It's Jack I'm there for. And I don't read Ianto/other stories at all.

Jack is sort of one of those, without the power and influence of the Divine. He's an atheist angel; a great force for good. His journey is backwards though: he was fallen; he is ascending.
I don't read Ianto/other stories at all.
Nor I. He was made to love Jack.
And I'm still waiting for the perfect first-time fic; Ianto's fall, Jack's blindness. I've only read one (Moving In" (http://ukcalico.livejournal.com/284266.html), and it was scorching and hideously painful, but I'd like to read another, hint.

Date: 2009-04-06 10:08 pm (UTC)Ianto's on my menu in most Torchwood contexts - unless he's paired with anyone other than Jack. I actively avoid Ianto/Doctor and Ianto/just about anyone else, because his relationship with Jack is the thing I like best about Ianto. Or Ianto fic. And I know I just wrote an Ianto/Lisa story myself; that doesn't count.
And saying that, I have read Ianto/Toshiko and Ianto/Owen, depending on the writer, so it depends on the author, and my mood, and....
Truth is, it takes a lot to get me to read crossovers even if it's about Jack. And we know you can easily slash Jack with just about anyone, anywhere, anytime.

What a wonderful thought! Yes, absolutely.

I'd love to write one. But I don't have my head around it yet. Working on it. It's intriguing because the emotions are so complex and subtle, and we don't see what happened in canon.
I loved Moving In.

Date: 2009-04-06 11:26 pm (UTC)SO painful, and yet so very bewilderingly sexy. (Appropriately so, I suppose, from Ianto's POV.) I love it too, although I think Jack's more mood-sensitive --less bull-in-china-shop-- than he's portrayed there. I can absolutely see him gleefully taking what he believes is cheerfully given though; that's the path that leads straight to "you hid yourself from
meus!"I love your Ianto/Lisa story! So different from the usual. Ianto and Lisa deserve a ripping yarn!

I find it interesting that more fans write about Jack and Ianto's 'first date' (following the conversation in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang") than the first time they have sex - at some indeterminate time considerably before that.
Delighted you liked my Ianto/Lisa story. I wanted it to be worthy of them both. And they aren't dull people.
