I think stem cell research is very important. Any scientific or medical research is good if handled with intelligence and integrity, bad if not.

As for being funded by the government - I think the government should fun many more research projects. Science is notoriously unfunded, and the most dangerous thing of all is to have research in the hands of companies who stand to make money from the results.

I'd want close supervision on those private firms, but our nation's oligarchical tendencies do worry me when it comes to that close supervision.

I wouldn't trust the current government to manage anything, or to tell the truth to the country. But bad as they are, they'd be better with scientists in this country working on research, than without. Governments come and go. Science looks at truths, which outlast politics and politicians.

Which may explain a few issues of preferring to not play well with scientists in several instances.
