24 Reasons Rhys is Magnificent...

Rhys Williams is a wonderful boyfriend (or fiancé or husband), and a magnificent Torchwood character. If you don't believe me, here are twenty-four reasons to change your mind. This picspam is dedicated to bethan_b_bad, who in torch_wood today was missing Rhys, and hoping for more about him.

Why is he great? Let me count the ways...

1. He's cute.




2. He doesn't hog the covers, or sprawl across more than his share of the bed, or snore.




3. He was concerned when he thought Gwen had done something as stupid as drinking after getting a concussion.




4. He kisses well.




5. He takes Gwen out for dinner, especially when there is something to celebrate.




6. He's uninhibited, sexy, and playful.




7. He is hospitable to unexpected overnight guests. At Christmas.




8. He looks good in a blue shirt.



9. Did I mention that he kisses well?



10. He looks good in sunglasses.




11. He makes coffee for Gwen in the morning, even when the world is ending. He also makes her lasagna for supper, and spag bol. He doesn't let Gwen go hungry.




12. He cleans the oven. He cleans the oven. His worth is greater than rubies.




13. He stands up for himself as necessary, and is honest about his feelings.




14. He likes the invisible lift.




15. He has an interesting office, his office assistant likes him, and he keeps a cute picture of himself and Gwen on his desk.




16. He is resourceful in dangerous situations.




17. He is brave.




18. He thinks alien-hunting is really cool.




19. He copes when his fiancée gets amnesia and doesn't know him from Adam, and he then romances her all over again.




20. He cleans up nicely.




21. He learns to cope with alien tech. After a fashion.




22. He defends Gwen against whatever comes.




23. He works well with others.




24. He's proud of Gwen when she deserves it.

Thank you for this wonderful picspam of a wonderful character. Rhys won my heart from the first moment he appeared on screen. With all the other characters I needed some time to come to like them but there's something about Rhys that captured me at once.

Rhys is adorable in may ways, and I too took some time to get to like some of the Torchwood characters - Owen being the the one I had most difficulty with. And, in other ways, Ianto. But Rhys was magnificent all along.

Early on I felt like Rhys was intended to be somewhat unlikeable (possibly so that Gwen could be with someone else without people minding as much), but during the end of series 1 and series 2 he really grew as a character. He is completely out of his depth at times and while he doesn't always handle things perfectly he generally does a good job (and who wants to watch a perfect character anyway?).

I love the oven cleaning scene. It is blatantly obviously how much he loves Gwen and cares about her. He really does put up with a lot while Gwen is off "helping save the world".

I don't think we were meant to either approve or condemn Gwen's infidelity; personally, I didn't mind the infidelity nearly as much as I minded the dishonesty. But I loved the way her relationship with Rhys progressed.

#15 reminded me how funny it was when you see that both Gwen and his assistant are fattening him up with pastries. That was such a great touch.

A couple of my favorite Rhys moments are (1.)when he is singing along to Harwoods' theme and (2.)when he is playing it cool, getting ready for Dav's Staying a Bachelor Stag.

(Was #6 the Rhys's rear moment? Too hot for primetime or something?)

I don't understand the question. We see his naked rear on several occasions. Rhys likes to wander around the apartment naked in the mornings - seems the dressing gown is just for when there's company. Were those scenes cut somewhere when it aired?
