From what I understand, the place was ticking down due to inevitable legal issues anyway. If it wasn't Marvel, it would've been someone else's lawyers who decided that the place had survived for too long.
While I am *not* familiar with that community, I think it's sad when our general addiction to litigiousness leads to results like these. :-(
Another fact is that any attempt to introduce a law that limited or otherwise discouraged the "suing habit" would have the lobbyists out in *droves* to kill the bill in question.
