Writer's Block: Passing Time

In high school, I used to transcribe poetry I'd memorized in the back of my text books. My French teacher once caught me doing that. He was so flummoxed by the strangeness of it he didn't say anything. It was English poetry, mostly, too.

Sometimes I still do that.

Sometimes I doodle trees and vines.

Sometimes I daydream about fandom of choice, or book of choice. Or make up stories.

I was stuck in a traffic jam for about an hour on Saturday. I daydreamed about TW the whole time.

(Not so sure that teacher was so much flummoxed, as impressed. I know I would be.)

Traffic jams are horrible - but when we have TW to dream about, it's a sort of bonus!

Whether my teacher was flummoxed or impressed or both, I was happy to be out of trouble.

Doodling mainly, but occasionally fanfic plotting and scribbling down notes on it. Has the advantage that I look as if I'm taking an interest, but can be a disadvantage if anybody asked could they copy my 'notes', lol!

If I can write then I'll usually just think about my fandom of choice.

Yes - since my days as a journalism student, I've been in the habit of taking notes everywhere. If my notes have nothing to do with the speaker's topic, and everything to do with slash, who's to know but me? It makes life much more interesting.

I often think about food, new recipes, compile menus, what would taste good together. Thinking about food makes me happy.

I'm a compulsive doodler, unless it's one of those rare situations where I've been allowed to bring my needlework along.

Did you know there was a study done recently that found people who doodle retain information better than people who just sit and listen? I was thrilled.

In college, I had a night class so dull, I wrote my boyfriend an 8-page letter enumerating in detail how excruciating the boredom was.

Yes - I used to regularly write to my girlfriend when I was taking notes for the Annual General Meeting minutes. Letter-writing is a wonderful thing.
