Weevil Kind

Jack worried about Owen.

He remembered the Owen he had first met, in pain from Katie's loss. He watched that grief change into brittle acceptance; sarkiness; cunning. He watched Owen find comfort in cheap, impersonal sex. Well. Whatever works.

And now, he thought, Diane's loss shattered him as Katie's death never could. Diane made him vulnerable as never before. Having gambled his heart and lost, Owen was angry, dark, and dangerous. He haunted the Weevil cells, snarling, calling it study.

Jack knew better: it was fury.

Owen was not a lost soul. He was close to the edge of destruction.
