The High Cost of Living Forever

Jack had been reading at his desk. Now he looked thoughtfully into space, and Ianto thought he looked tired. That was silly, because Jack never got tired. Ianto closed the door behind him and leaned against it. "I'm sorry."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "Sorry?"

"I was angry. I didn't understand. The fairies were ruthless. You had to sacrifice that little girl to save the world."

Jack shook his head. "You still don't get it. I had to save the world, but that wasn't how it happened."

"You didn't sacrifice Jasmine?"

"I set her free."

"I don't...."

"I know," said Jack.

::nods:: I'm with Jack on this one.

I like your setup of the scene in the first paragraph, it really puts me there.

So glad you enjoyed it! I like Estelle and might have written about her, but she deserves more than a drabble.

I don't understand either, not really. I suspect Jack was right about her, though - it's just hard for us not to see her as just a little girl. I mean, it wasn't a case of possession - she really was something strange and unearthly. ::shivers::

Yes. She was really very creepy. I wonder what ever would have become of her if the fairies hadn't existed, or hadn't chosen her?
