Gwen walked into the flat, into Rhys's warm arms.

"You're home late."

"Mmm. New job tomorrow."

"Promotion?"

She flopped onto the settee. "More a... uh... transfer. To special ops." She couldn't say it: Torchwood. Torchwood. Torchwood.

"Special ops? What's that?"

"Different stuff. You know, like CSI. In-depth casework."

"I thought you were happy where you were. You were talking about getting a desk job. Maternity leave."

"But this is exciting!" said Gwen, and for a moment true joy shone in her eyes. Torchwood. Jack. Aliens.

Rhys kissed the top of her head. "I'm proud, love. Congratulations."
