Writer, librarian, architect, park ranger...

I shared two out of the four.

I bite my nails.

As do I. I am slightly surprised (and slightly shocked) how many of my friends said this; I thought it was a rare vice. I guess not.

I am a quilt show junkie.

I don't know if it's weird, but I know a lot of people who like quilts, make quilts, and do the shows. I like quilts and love to see them, but I've never been to a show, and desite a lifelong desire to make one, never have - well, nothing larger than a quilt for a newborn's crib.

In my family, if you're lefthanded you bite your nails. I don't know why that is, but none of the righthanded people do, and all of the lefthanded people either do or did. Verra strange [g].

Quilt shows are well worth seeking out (if there's a quilt shop in Ottawa -- look under fabric in the yellow pages), they'll know of any local guilds and/or shows.

Oh, and if you want to see my personal quilt show, here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mmegaera/sets/72157594510763533/) [g]. These are pictures of all the quilts I've made that are still in my possession (probably about half my total output -- I've been at this for about twenty years).

How very interesting. I'm sure there's a real connection, probably something to do with neurochemistry. I'm right handed and bite my fingernails... but as far as I know, no one else in my family (i.e., people I'm related to) is a fingernail-biter.

Thanks for the quilt link!

I always figured it had something to do with the added stress -- it can get, er, interesting, sometimes, for a lefty to negotiate a righthanded world. I am borderline ambidextrous (the only thing I consistently do lefthanded is write). I have perused lefthander websites on occasion, and read about the things lefties complain about, and been rather boggled about many of them. Then I go back and think, do I do that lefthanded or righthanded? Almost every time, when it's something that I don't have a problem with, it's because I do it righthanded.

You're welcome for the quilt link [g].

Interesting about the right-handed/left-handed thing. I really don't know much about the subject - being right-handed (and not ambidextrous at all), it isn't a subject I've had to think about much. Though I do find it fascinating when my left-handed friends talk about it.

It's another one of those things like women know much more about men, minorities know much more about white people, non-Christians know much more about Christians, and GBLTs know much more about straights, than vice versa. Albeit on a much more minor scale. The people who are dominant in a society don't have any reason to know about the people who aren't, but the people who aren't basically have to know about the people who are in order to survive.

It happens in so many ways. Any aspect of a person that it's shared by most people. It's the unusual characteristics which are almost always the most interesting.
