A holiday today! I love a holiday.

They're calling it "Family Day". I have mixed feelings about that. It's a little too neutral. We were talking about this at Tasia's place last night; I said I didn't have a family and Donna said, "Don't be silly, Elizabeth. We are your family."

Aww. Bless. I loved that.

I'm making a grasshopper pie for supper, and a chicken-honey dish.

Grasshopper pie is a recipe that includes whipping cream, crème de menthe, and chocolate cookie-crumb crust.

Looks like this:

I haven't made it, or had it, in ages. Looking forward to this.

Until you showed us, I had my doubts. Any recommendations as to substitutions for the creme de menthe for those of us who would need/prefer to do so?

Sure. Instead of crème de menthe, use a teaspoon of peppermint flavouring and a good dollop of green food colouring. Works fine and I do it that way half the time anyway.

It's also Louis Riel Day. Insurrection with that?

Add one more to your family! Though I had to celebrate from work, being a silly servant and all.

I too had to work today, but at least I made sure I could take *part* of the day off.

Many ((hugs)) your way too, and I hope you don't consider me too strange ...

Chicken-honey dish? Better luck with the oven -- still, sounds lovely. My sister has embarrassed me by asking why I haven't entered my barbecue sauce in a contest. I never make it the same way twice, was my answer to her. On my visits to her new place in Frostburg, I've been cooking for them more often than not, because it is a delight for me. I love to cook and having someone to cook it for makes it all twice as wonderful.

Cooking is fun, isn't it?

As for the barbecue sauce, you could still enter it, if you want to. There's no rule it has to be reproduceable, is there?
