fajrdrako: ([Torchwood] - 04)

Last week my wonderful new Captain Jack Harkness action figure came in the mail. (Don't ask what the postage cost. Just don't. It was worth it.)

I was thrilled, of course, and I took it up to show [livejournal.com profile] maaseru. But as I was knocking on her door, Jack dropped his Webley. It may be hard to tell scale in the picture, but that little gun is only about one centimetre long. It disappeared on the carpet.

So I left Captain Jack with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, and borrowed her flashlight, and started hunting on the hallway carpet for the gun.

A young man came out of the apartment next door, and asked what I was looking for. "A plastic gun," I said, and did my best to describe it. So he's down on his hands and knees looking for it, and I'm waving around the light, and who'd have though a gun one cm long could hide so well?

Eventually we found it, and it is now taped to the plinth that Jack stands on. It looks to me like a little plastic stand with the Torchwood logo on it, but the packaging calls it a 'plinth'. [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, always precise in her English usage, looked at it in disgust: "That is not a plinth."

Jack is a little larger than my action figures of Ten and Martha and DW Jack, so he looms beside them in my bathroom, awaiting a Doctor of suitable size to be posed with. Symbolically suitable, now I think of it.

That is a great-looking action figure. I don't think I would ever put his coat on! The detail of his trousers and belt and braces (...wait, why does he need a belt *and* braces?) and his sleeves rolled up, it's all pleasing.

Gorgeous, isn't he? I think there's going to be a model with a coat coming out later. And the navy blue shirt, perhaps? And then it would be nice to get another model with the waistcoat.

(...wait, why does he need a belt *and* braces?)

It's one of those Captain Jack Harkness mysteries. My guess is that he uses the belt to support the holster for the Webley.

The sleeves are wonderful. One of the things I love with this figure: in a lot of action figures the joints look ugly or ungainly. In this one, they hardly show at all.

Look, Captain Jack's pants just need more restraint than most people's, OK?

Oh dear. Unfortunately, yes, that make perfect sense.

Sometimes he just... slips! And his fly comes down! It's an ACCIDENT.

The braces are there in case it's a bad time.

The braces are there in case it's a bad time.

And you know, considering it's Jack, I imagine there are a surprising number of instances where it isn't a bad time at all.

Ooh, that's a lovely one. Much nicer than the TW Jack figure.

(Note to self: FIND JOB)

I have to admit that when I saw the subject of your post, my first reaction was to wonder whether he'd checked his 'usual' hiding place for it (facepalm)

I checked there first thing. Just in case. And... I saw the gun fall.

I wish his holster could be opened so the gun could go into it, but... no.

I have Captain Jacks' guns and the Doctor's sonic screwdiriver in my itty-bitty jewelery box for the exact same reason.
