Writer's Block: Spoilers Below the Cut

I have done it once or twice inadvertantly. I'm always very sorry when I do that. It's important to me not to have spoilers - I hate inflicting them on others.
And you can assume, whenever you see an lj-cut on my LJ, it may contain spoilers below.
As for being spoiled: I remember a convesation once with
maaseru - who loves spoilers, always wants to know how things end before she sees them - in which I said I wanted to see a certain movie, and she said, "Oh, yes, isn't that the one where they all die in the end?"
Hah! There goes any reason I might have to see it. I love suspense. I love not knowing how things turn out.
I don't mind casting spoilers because they are extra-textual, but I try to be careful about them, too.

Date: 2009-01-30 03:51 pm (UTC)That must have been wonderful. What great casting.
I wouldn't tell him what happens in the last act, much to his irritation!
Hah!
I can't think of that play without thinking "Exit, pursued by bear". Poor Shakespeare.

It was Battle Royale and it's sequel btwno subject
Date: 2009-01-31 01:30 am (UTC)It's a shame your friend was upset; because we can't always judge how much another person will know, or will want to be unspoiled. Inadvertent problems like that happen. I am aware that my icon showing the Eleventh Doctor might be a spoiler for people who don't like casting spoilers; on the other hand, if they don't know, they probably won't know who it is anyway.
Battle Royale - is that something I should watch?

There's only so much time to see so many films.
But I'd never tell someone who didn't want to know.

Date: 2009-01-30 08:19 pm (UTC)And once I got a complaint from somebody who thought the title of one of my fics was too big a spoiler (rolls eyes) (dude, if you're reading fanfic in a fandom, you've got to assume the writer has seen all eps even if you haven't)
I've been spoiled frequently myself. Usually it's intentional. I know that if I go to a comm or forum or mailing list for a particular show before I've seen all the eps to date, then I know I'll be spoiled and I accept that risk.
What bugs me is when I go to a forum or read emails from a mailing list for show A and then get spoiled when somebody makes a random comment about something that happened on show B. That really annoys me, especially if i've been deliberately trying to avoid spoilage.

As for the title of a fic being a spoiler.... The person should have the sense not to read fanfic if they're worried about spoilers. I'm saving Buffy fanfic for when I'm through the series!
I don't think there's any read escape, in fandom, from spoilers one way or another. It's necessary to tread carefully and listen selectively. And sometimes that's difficult.

Date: 2009-02-10 01:31 am (UTC)http://www.thefump.com/artist.php?id=4 is the link I used to find it; it's all the songs by Tom Smith on The Funny Music Project [theFuMP.com]. You can listen to them for free and, if you click on each blue song title, there are frequently lyrics included.
