Good news: the bus strike is over at last. CITY AND ATU LOCAL 279 REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT.

So when can the buses be back on the streets?

Been following this from Toronto, of course ... looks like about a week to get your bus fleet back up and running.

I'll be ready. Life is so much easier when there are buses. Really.

About time. Just a bunch of egos (particularly the Mayor) who wouldn't actually listen to what the other side wanted.

And after the first three weeks, the atmosphere was so poisoned, I don't think any sort of negotiations could have been successful.

If any City Councillor (or the union members) votes this agreement down, I think they're in risk of being lynched.

Just a bunch of egos

So true.

If any City Councillor (or the union members) votes this agreement down, I think they're in risk of being lynched.

I'm the non-violent type, but I think I'd... I don't know... put a hex on them or something. A plague of boils?

I hope this bananarama *will* be remembered ... when the civic elections next take place in Nov. 2010.

A few councillors (Alex Cullen and Clive Doucet) acquitted themselves honorably. The rest ... GRRRR.

The Mayor is a scumbag and some of his councillors are no better.

I hope they throw the book at him for illegal election practices.

I fear that my councillor will be among those trying to vote it down. Hoping I'm wrong.

Then you need to contact him or her. The letter included in this post (http://community.livejournal.com/octranspo/560824.html) is a good place to start. :-)

Write to him - harass him - don't let him!

So when can the buses be back on the streets?

Next week sometime -- but I suspect they'll be so overcrowded to start (because not all will be back yet) that it's going to be almost as bad as pre-strike.

What I've heard is that the Transitway routes will come back first, plus mainline routes like the #2 and #7. But not the #1 except off-peak.

The Citizen says:
This is OC Transpo's tentative plan for which routes will be back first.

*Weekdays*

Will operate during their regularly scheduled day, including rush hours:
. O-Train
. All school routes, numbered in the 600s
. Rapid transit routes 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 101, 102 and 106
. Major routes 2, 7, 12, 14, 85, 86 and 118
. Peak employment route 105
. Van route 123
. Early morning routes 824, 825, 830, 835, 837, and 873

Will operate evenings and mid-day only, outside of rush hours:
. Routes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 16, 18, 87, 111, 112, 114, 115, 116 and 117
. Local black routes numbered 121 through 178

Will not operate immediately:
. Green express and rural express routes
. Red rush hour routes other than 102 and 105

*Saturday & Sunday *
All routes that normally run on weekends will operate at full service.

At least I get my #7, and thank goodness I don't live further south.

Thank you. Hopefully the city will recover. This has been really hard on businessness, especially on Bank Street and downtown.

You may find a post in the OC Transpo community (http://community.livejournal.com/octranspo/560824.html) interesting.

I hope so too. They say it'll be a week, and then some bus lines will start up again. At last!

It's a relief. But it was snowing again today, and the buses won't be on the roads for a week.

At least we have an end in sight.
