I find it disturbing that here in the UK, Canadian history is pretty much unknown. We have far stronger, and friendlier, ties with Canada, but US history is given priority. For example, on the American War of Independence, what we get fed here is the US point of view – not British, and without any Canadian input re: Loyalists and First Nations. The books available in mainstream bookshops on the subject are American.
I suppose there's not much need for people in the UK to know Canadian history, but it does seem a pity. There isn't much equality in the teaching of world history - when I was in school it was all Canadian-British relations and Canadian-US relations and I was bored by it all, though I loved Canadian history prior to c. 1850.
I remember once in grade 5 or so we studied Simon Bolivar just for a bit of a change - I loved that class and remember it still. Something different! I wish we'd also touched on Australia, Japan, Poland - anywhere different.
The US point of view of the American War of Independence is so loud it drowns out all the rest.
Great quote. I like him! Obama is saying things like that and now all the people who elected him are having to put their actions where their chants were, hee. "Let's just all be Americans" is not a bad thing. Not if we remember that the original documents of our country had nothing in them about religion... sigh. Let's all remember that, yes, please.
And good luck with the budget proposal, or is it an economic stimulus proposal? Oops, right, sorry. Good luck with that! Better luck to chuck Harper out. But, we'll work on that.
Hey, did you know that some of the right-wing fear-mongers are saying that Obama wants to make a North American State, bringing both Canada and Mexico under the same realm as the US? Is that wacky, or what? I think Canadians and Mexicans would have a leeeeetle bit to say about that! So much for seeing just how little regard the right-wing fear-mongers have for the political (or even human) self-awareness of Canadians and Mexicans. Clear bigotry, yup.
Remind me again that it takes all kinds to make a world!

Seems to simple to me!

If that's his agenda, we haven't noticed it yet. I don't think we need to worry; Obama says he isn't into armed invasions. But I'm surprised the right-wingers would think this is a bad thing. All they all for an American Empire?

Sometimes I think there are some that the world could do without.
Oh, you haven't noticed it because it's a Secret Agenda. By the time you notice, it'll be far too late. Right-wingers are silly old dingbats....
Yes, I'd agree about the world needing fewer fanatical bigots. And they all are so convinced that they're the ones who are right. Is this sociopathic? I'd say so.
