I watched the last episode of Merlin this morning with

We were impressed hoe much more sophisticated the show was at the end than at the beginning. Less comedy, less of a kid's show.
We speculated on what they were going to do with Guinevere.
Definitely looking forward to series 2.

Date: 2009-01-04 09:27 pm (UTC)I wouldn't have said that so much as it starts out silly. Pratfalls, lots of humour, playing to the variations on the Arthurian theme rather than developing character or having significant scripts. Watchable but so light it floats away.
It gets better as it goes, and though it's not a show I feel fannish about or committed to watching, I thoroughly enjoyed some of the later episodes, which had real substance. Arthur and Uther particularly get good characterization. We don't know what to make of Guinevere, who is very bland - Morgana is much more interesting, with more presence.
The problem is not in watching Buffy, it's in finding time to write about watching Buffy. Which I have not forgotten, and will continue. I was a little discouraged by not liking Angel so far but I will persevere.
I've just spent the last 3 weeks obsessively watching Supernatural.
Have you watched it all, now?
I like your Dean/Lymond parallel, though I don't remember which one Dean is.

I think you'd like Angel just fine if you started it with Season 2 - you can always go back to watch season 1 later. Hell, why do it in order if that order doesn't work for you. I started watching Supernatural from 4.1 on, for example.
Wesley has a ton of evolution in Season 2 as well. Because it's just a shame that you'd miss Angel 5 with Spike, which was just tons of fun from start to finish.
Dean is the somewhat shorter, somewhat better looking brother.
I keep thinking the other guy, Jared Padelecki - by stature and looks, though not by acting talent,
could easily play Niccolo. Anyway, it gives me a good model to work with, visually speaking.

Starting Angel with sesason 2 might be a good idea, since it bogged me down a little in season 1, having almost no desire to actually watch it, and not liking the characters. But I certainly want to watch more of Spike. What I'd actually like to do is watch all of Buffy and then all of Angel, but I'm told that's a bad way to do it.
Jared Padelecki as Nicholas? Interesting idea. I'll check what he looks like again, as I don't quite remember.
