So now the new Doctor is announced.

Someone I never heard of. And... no wonder. I think of this as a best case scenario. Including that he is male, and young.

How very cool.

Found a link I can look at, at this clip, and hooray! I found a way to make the sound work.

I know him from Ruby in the smoke (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/rubyinthesmoke/matt_smith.shtml)

very young. very very young. But than, that was party of his role.

I don't form opinions, I will just wait and see what will happen.

I was really hoping it would be someone unknown. Or at least - unknown to me!

I'm hoping to watch Ruby in the Smoke with [livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala tomorrow.

Young, yes. But I assume he's a good actor - he must be.

He was my second choice after Pattison so I'm not unhappy :)

He's not that young, he's 26, which is only 3 years younger than Peter Davison when he was in the role but yeah - the youngest yet, and he does looks particularly teenager-ish! I'l be interested to see his 'look' on the show. And I'm more eager then ever to see who they're going to cast as his companion!

Yay! Good for you!

What had you seen him in, that he impressed you? Why did you think he'd be good?

which is only 3 years younger than Peter Davison when he was in the role

I've seen none of the Peter Davison ers (except "Time Crash", which doesn't count in this context), but I like the idea of a young-appearing Doctor.

I'm more eager then ever to see who they're going to cast as his companion!

As usual, I hope for a return of Captain Jack. But whoever it is will probably be interesting!

Party Animals, which is a political drama. It required versatility – gravitas and comedy, flippancy and thoughtfulness, which are essential for the Doctor - and he did it well.

I'm not too worried when people say that they can't remember him. His better known roles Party Animals, History Boys etc were part of an ensemble cast, which is exactly right for ensemble shows. I don't think that means he can't be a leading man.

The only aspect I have reservations about is that he fairly Tennant-ish (quirky, likable, sort of physically lanky and bendy). I'm not sure if that will work in his favour or against him. It could drawn unfavourable comparisons or win Tennant fans over!

I do to. You can imagine a lot of people underestimating him because of his appearance :)

As usual, I hope for a return of Captain Jack.
I'll be up for that, but I rather like him in Torchwood and I don't think Ianto would cope with the jealousy.

Sounds perfect, then.

History Boys etc were part of an ensemble cast, which is exactly right for ensemble shows.

I've been wanting to watch History Boys. Is this my excuse?

The only aspect I have reservations about is that he fairly Tennant-ish (quirky, likable, sort of physically lanky and bendy).

I'd been thinking that a contrast with Tennant would be good, better than someone who resembled him, but that sort of physicality seems to be good for the show. In general.

It could drawn unfavourable comparisons or win Tennant fans over!

Whatever they do and whoever they picked, they'd have problems with fans who couldn't adjust, or who don't like the new guy as much as the old, or even vice vesa - I know people who stopped watching because they don't like Tennant. And whoever you pick, there'll be varying degrees of similarity and differecence. So - we wait and see.

You can imagine a lot of people underestimating him because of his appearance :)

That might be fun.

I rather like him in Torchwood

So do I, but he can always go away and come back. He could even come back minutes after leaving, with any number of TARDIS adventures in between.

and I don't think Ianto would cope with the jealousy.

You know, I usually don't like jealousy themes in stories, but I always get a kick out of it when Ianto is jealous. And even more when he isn't. (As with Gwen.) And since I like Jack's relationship with the Doctor more than his relationship with Ianto, I get what I want, either way!

Ah well, I can hope.

A good actor, but sort of odd-looking. (He has that Neanderthal forehead I disliked re: Angel in Buffy.) I'll wait and see…

Well, I certainly don't like David Boreanaz' looks, but I liked his character in Buffy. Not, so far, in Angel, but I'll reserve judgement till I see more.

If there's someone whose looks I don't like, but whose acting I like, kin a well-written show, it's usually all right. But things have to come together in the right way.

I'm mostly concerned in that I've seen him in so much, apparently... and remembered him not at all in any of them! I could take a young'un like Harry Lloyd that stands out, so it'll be interesting. I just am a little afeared of :: think Muppets:: Coupling In Space!

LOL - no tmuch of an impression, then!

I could take a young'un like Harry Lloyd that stands out, so it'll be interesting.

Maybe he just needs a good script and a role he can get into, where he has some sort of a spotlight.

I just am a little afeared of :: think Muppets:: Coupling In Space!

LOL! Why, was he in Coupling? Or is it he "young actor + Steven Moffat" equation you fear?

Nope, and looking at the size of his forehead and chin, you'd think at least those would have made an impression.

Or is it he "young actor + Steven Moffat" equation you fear?

That. And, oh dear, I just saw an interview with him, and I hope they don't let him talk too much! I had to turn it off, or I'm never going to be able to watch him! Maybe it'll be the opposite of Tennant, where I love him in interviews, and really don't in character. ::fingers crossed::

You'd think! They make an impression in the still photos, certainly.

What, his voice is a problem?

I think he looks interesting - not what I was dreading when they started all that 'youngest ever' stuff in the programme. So I am cautiously optimistic and reserving further judgement until 2010!

I must find a way to see the programme - but it will probably be days if not weeks. I'm sure it will be good for my character to have to wait.

That's about all we can do. I'm sure there will be many interviews and news items about him between now and then.

I think the promo pics look good! I trust the people who hired him that he can act *g* and that's the most important thing. We'll see.
Welcome Eleven!
And I finally ordered Doctor Who Season Two! Prices are going down a bit! *happy dance*

I feel encouraged that they chose someone who isn't a big name (yet) and who is probably very talented. Especially since I have a certain faith in Steven Moffat's writing skills - the prognosis for Eleven looks good.

Of course they hire based on cheekbone prominence. Nine, Ten, Eleven... ;-)

I wonder what Eleven will be like? Worthier of Jack's eternal love, I hope.

Cheekbones? I approve. They should have hired Colin Morgan. Or James Marsters.

I wonder what Eleven will be like?

I predict he will be curious, and smart. Beyond that - ?

Worthier of Jack's eternal love, I hope.

I certainly hope he will be kinder to Jack.

They won't let me see the video - ! Though I can't get sound on this laptop anyway. Taking my own computer in to be fixed in about half an hour. Which means - I'm taking it into the shop in half an hour, it will be a few days before I get it back even in a best case scenario.

I will try to be patient.
