This morning as I waited for Gord to so kindly come and pick me up to drive me to work, I had my camera with me, and used it to take a few pictures of the snow that had fallen. The snow was just stopping falling; the sun had just come up. It was cold, but pretty.

1. Looking across the street

That tree is the one that was such a deep red only a few weeks ago.

2. My Neighbour Walks her Dog

It's almost 7:30 a.m., which means it's time to walk the dog.
This is one of the women in my apartment building, with her little pooch dressed up warm, happy to be outside whatever the weather.

3. Cosy and warm inside the Lobby

They've decorated the lobby nicely this year: we all think the fireplace is a delightful touch. The pictures above the fireplace are permanently there - they're photos of the skating on the Rideau Canal, which is right next to the apartment building.

I wanted to take other pictures as well - especially of the beautiful lights at Confederation Square - but there's something about snow and wintry weather that makes a person hesitate to take off her gloves and get out her camera. One of these days, I will.

Yes, it's pretty. Too bad it isn't more comfortable... The outdoor pictures, that is. The lobby is warm and nice.

Very nice! I really like the pictures in the lobby - that's a LOT of people ice skating! :)

Yes. A lot of people skate there every year. It's billed as 'the world's biggest skating rink", though someone last year was trying to compete for size - Edmonton, maybe? I don't know if they succeeded. Anyway, it's about three miles of skating rink and it's packed every weekend from the time it opens to the time it's too melted to use again.

Pretty. I have memories of coming out of a movie theatre in Niagara Falls in December, and the snow was falling, big flakes. It was so pretty with all of the Christmas decorations. I was probably in my early teens since I wasn't at the theatre with my parents, but they came to pick me and friends up after the movie. Just one of those "picture" moments that stick with one.

It's so pretty. We've had snow on the ground since early November, which is not typical, but not the deep cold that you guys are having.

And those pictures of the skating. I want to pull out my skates and come try it out.

That doesn't sound typical at all. We used to get (and here I'm relying on my bad memory) snow that stayed on the ground early in December. The last decade or two it's been coming around mid-November, but not earlier. When I was a kid we'd usually get a light snowfall around Halloween, but it wouldn't last.

It was snowing hard again this morning.

Well, why don't you? Come visit! Bring your skates!

Mmmm, I would love to come up. Wonders if we can take time off after Christmas. ;-)

That first picture in particular looks like a Christmas card, but they're all nice.

We may get one of our rare snowfalls tomorrow night. I'm so glad I don't have anywhere to go on Saturday...

Snow is inconvenient, but pretty - or at least, it's pretty in December. Gets ugly by April, but that's just how it goes.

Snow in April is just Wrong. In the Ivanian sense of the term.

Yes, so true. But the cruel Ottawa weather gods don't realize how very wrong it is and they offer no mercy.
