I would, of course, have been disappointed if I'd been anyone else. Because I am Captain Jack Harkness in everything except gender, looks, century of birth, immortality, situation, knowledge, time-travelling experience, position, dimples, greatcoat, geography, relationship with the Doctor and ... Okay, okay, I'm maybe not much like him on the outside, not so's you'd see, but deep down? I'm sure there's a simliarity.

And then my second match was Toshiko. I am flattered. I expected Gwen. See, though I identify with Jack and, to a lesser extent, Gwen, I really admire Toshiko. (Owen I dislike but can appreciate. Ianto? I'm still working on that. Or even on articulating my feelings and thoughts about Ianto.)

I got Tosh, then Ianto, then Gwen. Tosh I expected, and I understand the Gwen - I can make some guesses on Ianto - organized and reliable, I guess? But I'm with you on being mostly flummoxed by him. I've been trying to write a drabble, just a drabble, about him this week, and I don't think I even know enough about him to do that.

The most unfair thing about that quiz was it made me choose between medicine to save my friend and an alien teddy bear.

Ianto is elusive. I feel that I can poke at his edges - understand him in bits and pieces - but the integrated whole is hard to see.

Ah, I'm out of luck, then. :) Maybe if I found a different way to be very nice to Ianto, I could convince him to persuade Jack for me. Chain of favors! Maybe if I had been thoughtful and considerate to Ianto all along, that's all I would need.

Ianto plays his own agenda, and though I think he has Jack's best interests in mind, usually - or Torchwood's - he isn't particularly obedient even if you think of him as having a clean slate again after "Cyberwoman". He loves Jack, but isn't always loyal.

I think Ianto is a good friend, but I wouldn't ever take him for granted.
