Heroes: The Eclipse, part 2...
Dec. 1st, 2008 10:41 pmI haven't seen "The Eclipse, part 1" yet but I decided to watch this evening's episode anyway, so as not to fall behind. And I'm glad I did.
Things I Liked
- Seeing Peter and Nathan together, and acting heroically.
- Seeing Nathan grubby and in chains being earnest and determined.
- Elle, Daphne and Claire are all interesting women.
- Where was Angela Petrelli?
- Mr Bennet. So interesting. Again, I don't like it when Claire and he are aren't getting along; but I'll put up with a lot just to see them interact.
- Hiro in the comic shop with Seth Green. My fannish heart melted. My spiritual home!
- Hiro being persuaded to come out of the washroom.
- Hiro and Claire watching... Hiro and Claire. And Bennet and Nakamura. I love these time loops.
- Nathan flies again. Go, Nathan!
- Peter comes full circle: from originally being into having powers and saving the world, to needing to be convinced by Nathan that powers are good and they can do good... I was sorry Peter lost faith, but it was a nice switch and it was nice seeing Nathan being all idealistic.
- No sign of Ali Larter in any of her many roles. Yay!
Things I Didn't Like
- Mohinder seems to go on and on and on and not progress at all.
- Elle with Sylar. Daphne with Matt. Why do the women I like in this show end up with the men I don't much like, and whom I think are totally unsuited to them?
- Aside from the above, the characters and the specific pairings, this show has the worst romances around, while it has great non-romantic interactions. Odd.
- Continued absence of Claude. Other characters come back. Why not Claude? He isn't even dead.
- It's getting kind of cheap the way there are so many deaths, none of which take.
- Is it just me, or was that an incredibly long eclipse? And are we supposed to understand the relationship between the eclipse and the powers?
- Maya. I never wanted to see her again, pretty though she is. But her scene was okay...
- Peter still doesn't have his powers? What's with that? I want to see a stronger, better, smarter Peter.
- I still love the Haitian. Particulary in tough-guy mode.
Neutral
- Why is Claire so angry with Bennet? Just for not being with her in the hospital? That seems a little... thin... to me. In a literary/psychological sense. Is she being a bratty teen again, or is there a crucial bit of motivation that I've missed? In any case, I like it that the relationship between Bennet and Claire remains one of the most powerful and interesting in the show. (Even if it was, in this instance, lame. Or not.)
- Sylar's bad, Sylar's good, Sylar's bad again. I'm getting dizzy from the whiplash of his many changes. Not to mention: he's not a Petrelli, he's a Petrelli, he's not a Petrelli again....
- Is all this cause and effect with regards to power going to make sense at any point? Even in the style of comic book science?
- Daphne had cerebral palsy. Huh. I liked her father.
- Why does Daphne think of herself as a villain? That was... absurd. Comical. Strange.

I figured out Seth Green's superpower. He manages to look younger than he did a decade ago. I wish I could do that!

Date: 2008-12-02 06:23 am (UTC)I liked it better when he and Mohinder were playing psycho!stalker tag. Can they do that again? Mohinder can keep up with him now with his strange snake abilities!! :D Also, it gives Mohinder a far better focus than lab-lapdog and Maya obsessing!

They were both more interesting when they did that!

Poor Mohinder - a man without a plot of his own.

I have Cerebral Palsy, and they present it wrong in Part I of this GN. It's a birth defect, not a disease, and she would never have stood or walked properly to begin with, because CP is brain damage resulting from oxygen deprivation. The eclipse would've have had to heal the brain injury as well as bestow her superspeed.
As for Bennet&Claire, they seem stuck in this love/hate/forgive/love cycle, because the writers don't know what else to do. But, I still love them.

Date: 2008-12-02 12:15 pm (UTC)I thought that... it seems a rather simple/obvious thing to get wrong. Not really a problem in terms of the story, but clumsy.

Yes. I wish they'd change their repetitious pattern, and learn to overcome it, but it's okay, because they're still quite wonderful as they are.

Who's that in your icon? and what's the OTP?

He's a character called Boyce, a junior Doctor in a TV show called Greenwing. The premise and style of the show is very much like crack fanfiction if it were ever filmed, and it's absurdly funny, but it's unbelievably warm-hearted and touching. Paterson Joseph (the new Doctor?!) plays Lyndon on it.
The OTP is Boyce/Alan Statham (who is hiding in the boxes). Half the time Boyce appears to loath Statham (his teacher at the hospital) and winds him up accordingly, but there is an undercurrent that Boyce is actually in love with him and his ridicule is partly done to get his attention.

I thought Simone and Issac has potential, but nothing came of either.
Yes. I also liked Simone, and her story - her father was interesting. I liked both Simone/Isaac and Simone/Peter and the story potential in their interaction. Speak of past lovers of Peter... Whatever happened to the Irish girl? Is she still lost in a dystopian future?
Thanks for explaining about Greenwing. Is it a comedy or a drama or a bit of both? The title doesn't ring a bell but I'm sure I've heard the name Alan Statham. And Paterson Joseph is on it, and it's slashy ... cool.
