Overheard in the Barn
Mar. 27th, 2003 03:56 pmacampbell and I were talking about challenges and she forwarded the last Wednesday challenge to me. As challenges so often do, it got me thinking.... I made this a 144-word challenge, on a whim. Not a drabble, a dodecal.

Jonathan Kent sat on the steps of the Fortress of Solitude, gazing at something in his hand. Lex shrank back in shadows of the barn, hoping he hadn't been seen. What was going between him and Clark was no one's business but their own.
Lex waited, motionless and silent. Martha came down the stairs behind Jonathan and slipped her arms around his neck. "The meteor rock?"
The item in Jonathan's hand was a fragment of stone, but it wasn't meteor rock: it was the color of ruby. Lex frowned, listening.
"Pete had it," said Jonathan, angry. "He used it to twist Clark's mind. Clark almost raped Chloe."
"I don't think she was resisting him," said Martha dryly. "Pete was sick, hon. He couldn't help himself."
"And next time?"
"There must never be a next time."
Lex wondered how a meteor rock could be red.

Date: 2003-04-02 11:30 am (UTC)Sneakers... hmm, happens to be the title of one of my favourite movies. I'm planning to buy new sneakers myself, perhaps as a reward when I've walked another 50 miles. I've done 50 already, of the Trek to Rivendell that I've taken as a challenge. My reward-to-self for the first fifty miles? A new yoga mat.

Date: 2003-04-02 11:42 am (UTC)Well, um, before I could look it up...you told me what it meant...so, um...I haven't looked it up yet...
(But, I will. I swear it!)
Someone suggested we put this challenge on a community. What do you think?
I'm flexible either way.
