James Marsters was asked, "What do you think the biggest all around human fault is?" He said:
That we see patterns that are not there. One of the best things about humans is we recognize patterns, so we get things like science, music, philosophy. One of the worst things is that we see patterns that are not there so we get things like racism, homophobia and Jerry Falwell.
I got this from [livejournal.com profile] anaross. Love it.

I love people who are capable of complex, nuanced thought. When they're hot TOO, it's a bonus.

So very, very true. Marsters is one of those rare and magnificent people. Bright, talented, intelligent, and sexy as hell.

A nugget of wisdom from a surprising source! :-)

Maybe he'll adopt Gareth and mold him a bit.

Oooh. I'd like that.

Anything that means he'd stick around Torchwood!

Hello, James Marsters! Forgive me for being surprised that you said something deep and thinky! I am a little ashamed of myself.

It just goes to show - don't make assumptions about people, because they might prove you wrong.

It's hard not to, though.

Unfortunately, "seeing patterns" (and paranoia) are very much traits of the right-brain, which also causes creativity and intuition. It's hard to have creativity without the paranoia, racism and so forth. Trying to have one without the other rather seems like trying to square the proverbial circle.

I don't think you're right. That would imply that (a) creativity and reason are incompatible, which is manifestly untrue; and that (b) intuition is irrational. I don't think either of these suppositions is true at all. Creativity isn't contrary to good judgement, it fosters it. It's the people without imagination who make the false conclusions and cling to their prejudices.

Creativity will save us if anything will.

Oh, James Marsters! There is a reason you are a Fan Favorite. How I wish I still fit into that fabulous t-shirt I own with your adorable, sexy face on it.

You have a James Marsters T-shirt? How wonderful!

A company called "Americana Couture" sold a series of BtVS t-shirts with artistically shot and embellished photographs, scattered with Swarovski crystals. One shirt had a very nice image of Buffy, another of Angel, then there was one of Buffy and Angel in a clinch, and then there was one of Spike. After the shows went off the air, they stopped making all the versions of Angel and Buffy shirts due to lack of interest, but they continued to make Spike shirts for several years as it was their #3 top seller. Then they sort went out of business due to employee embezzlement. They owed me 5 shirts when they went out of business, but at least I got my Spike shirt. (The company is still around but I would not place an order with them; bizarrely, the people who embezzled from the original company seem to be running it now. Also, they do not seem to have a Spike shirt anymore.)

The story of that company sounds like a soap opera.

I wish I had a Marsters T-shirt! I have a terrific Methos T-shirt, but it's almost worn out and the picture is sadly faded.

I need a good new fannish T-shirt. I'd love one with Jack on it. And/or the Doctor. Everything I see has something like the TW logo or Daleks. Hmmph.

I see nothing, absolutely nothing, to make me doubt your conclusion.
