The Red and the Black

They sat side by side overlooking the water of Cardiff Bay.

Ianto was impeccably dressed, with dark overcoat and striped tie. Stained and torn, Captain John, in his red jacket, appeared to have survived a collision between starfighters.

They looked equally glum.

"He never writes," said John.

"Never calls," said Ianto.

"Does he remember your birthday?"

"Not yet."

The Time Agent snorted. "Why do we put up with him?"

The identical thought came to each mind. Ianto's blush matched the sudden light of memory in John's eyes.

"Yeah," said John. "That's why."

"Totally worth it," said Ianto.
