Well... it wasn't just you. There was at least one other person watching the show and thinking that, and I was the other one! Which of course made me love the character.
And of course, like Captain Jack, he had the transformative experience of taking on the moral cause and suffering for his choices. And being transformed again. Immortality! Doesn't make much difference whether you're buried under Cardiff or stuck in a cornfield....
(And the latter? Just the faintest whiff of Clark Kent in the Smallville pilot. But infinitely more resemblance to Jack.)
