Hmm. A very relaxing thing is to just count ten breaths, over and over again. It's often harder than it sounds... and once you've gotten relaxed enough by that, it might work to just trying slipping into sleep again?
Did you try going and totally annihilating me at Scrabulous? *comes to look*
Good idea, but I fear you are merely taking advantage of my sleep-deprived condition to con me into unwise moves... Hmm. Why do I have too many i's all of a sudden?
A bear - yes! Just the thing! Now tell me - this is in relation to a serious conversation maaseru and I were having over breakfast yesterday - what is it that Paddington Bear likes to eat? I was thinking of Winnie the Pooh with his hunny - was it Paddington who liked marmalade, or was that Pooh as well?
I can count to ten. I'm tempted to ask, in what language? When doing yoga or other exercises, I usually count in Esperanto. I was trying to count in French while exercising today - it was harder than I anticipated, which just means I should practise more.
And Italian - I'm way out of practice there.
But plain old English will probably put me to sleep faster.
Paddington likes marmalade *nods* and my bear belongs to the Seventh Doctor - he was a spot of mutual insanity donutsweeper allowed ourselves a couple of weeks ago and rustydog egged on :D
I had a terrible night last night, too. And this morning, Caddy decided that 8 a.m. was late enough for Mommy to sleep and I got dozens of tiny "love" bites until I finally spilled out of bed at nine. What fun.
If I can't get to sleep, I find that reading a non-scary book will eventually get me tired enough to sleep. Georgette Heyer is good.
Don't get up and use the computer -- that gets you further awake.
What also works well is counting with random numbers of pauses: 1, 2, pause pause, 3, pause pause pause pause, 4, pause, 5, pause pause pause pause pause pause, 6, 7, pause pause, 8, pause pause pause pause pause, etc. It occupies your mind enough that you don't think of whatever's bothering you, and yet it's boring enough it puts you to sleep.
I get a pillow and a blanky and lie down in front of the TV and watch Monk reruns. But I'm thinking maybe I'm just on a different schedule. I'm meant to sleep between 4 am and noon.
A lot of my friends seem to follow that sort of schedule. I suppose I'd like to if I could - but it just isn't possible when I have to be at work for 8:30 every day, so I've trained myself not to want to do it that way.
Still: my best creative writing time seems to start at about 11 pm and go on until I drop.
hehe. This is when I'm glad Honey is in a cage. ;) She would totally do that.
I woke up this morning to the nest of crows outside my bedroom window making the craziest noises. I wanted to shoot them. I settled w/ waking up early.
I'm so bad at sleeping these days. So much on my mind. I do bad things when I can't sleep, like play on the computer, which I know wakes me up more if anything. I've sort of resigned to slight insomnia at least until grad school goes away, but maybe it will stick around.
I'm so used to blaming everything on school. What will I blame w/o it?
Sometimes you don't have to blame it on anything. Sometimes it just happens.
Too bad stress doesn't go away when school ends. As I was saying to maaseru yesterday - I still have nightmares about high school exams. And it's been a long, long time since I had to write an exam.
This is when I'm glad Honey is in a cage. ;) She would totally do that.
Yes - same with my little guys. As long as they're in the cage, and the cage is covered, they don't make a lot of noise early. Mind you, if I try to sleep later than they like, they start making a racket anyway.
From outside, I get more noise from people than crows.
Good enough, then. Yes, talking on the phone does tend to wake a person up too much. Talking in person can actually put you to sleep, though, which is a nice thought. Next time this happens, feel free to have a practice conversation with me [g]. I can always use the practice!

The budgies were quiet this morning, but I had to go to work. The alarm clock went off. Ugh.

That 'randon numbers' idea is good. I'll try it next time I can't sleep.
