Date: 2008-07-08 01:00 am (UTC)Jackie? Now, that is a concept. (I said Jack. Heck, they could race cars together.) It isn't ice hockey Ianto's into, but field hockey... At least, he has the hockey stick - we see it in 'Dead Man Walking'. And in 'Sleeper' Jack talks about keeping hockey equipment under the bed. One wonders.

Date: 2008-07-08 03:13 am (UTC)Jack and Jackie racing together. I do like that! Rose would kinda freak!
Field hockey? Gad, that's violent. Hey, there was a photo on the front page of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette today about... curling! I am not kidding! The main caption said HURRY HARD! and then the little caption explained what that meant. The thing must have been written by a curling fan, because it casually tossed in jargon like "skip" -- fun, actually, and always nice to have one of my more obscure fondnesses show up in the local paper. (There was some kind of summertime curling competition at Robert Morris University, is why the photo.)
Oh, gad: hockey equipment under the bed? Right. Where it'll be right handy! I maybe don't wanna think about the rest of that. (Although, um, the shin-guards pose interesting possibilities....)

Is it?

I take it this is unusual? Seems pretty normal to me!

You never know what Jack will come up with. Have you heard about the UNIT cap he wanted for Ianto?

Date: 2008-07-10 10:31 pm (UTC)Curling on the front page of a Pittsburgh newspaper. Yes. Unusual. I think maybe four percent of the population even knows what curling is. The big things in town are football and hockey. Used to be baseball, but the Pirates have fallen on hard times. Drat that East India Company, closing off all the ports!
UNIT cap for Ianto...? No. I have not heard about that. I am not even clear on what UNIT is, I confess.

UNIT is a huge paramilitary organization in the Doctor Who universe, dating back to classic days when the Doctor (I've no idea which one or which ones) had a friend who was in charge of it, named the Brigadier. UNIT has turned up in both Torchwood and series 4 Doctor Who now. It always reminds me of S.H.I.E.L.D., and they have (or had) a huge flying battleship called the Valiant that looks remarkably like the SHIELD Helicarrier.
Anyway, UNIT is the Unified Taskforce (I think) and Martha Jones now works for them. The UNIT soldiers wear red caps, and their mandate is to fight enemy aliens.
So when Martha Jones comes to Torchwood there's a conversation that goes like this: And later on, in private, Martha and Jack have a conversation like this: I got this dialogue from the transcript by the incomparable

I loved the relayed conversations... hee, thanks. So fun! Thanks to beccaelizabeth.

I loved the relayed conversations...
That one was really fun. I love the scenes with Jack and Martha together. They play off against each other well; plenty of energy.
Thanks to beccaelizabeth.
She's been doing a wonderful, wonderful job of transcribing Torchwood scripts. I owe her a lot.
