A good day. For one thing, even though I slept half the day, I think I had a little more energy than I've had lately.

The biggest excitement: I went out. Out as in "out of doors". When Beulah came over (so she could help me with doors), I took my walker out to the back parking lot behind the building and sat in the sunshine for 15 minutes. The weather was beautiful - warm shirt-sleeve weather. And though I was exhausted from the trip, it was worth it. There is still snow on the canal but there are tiny buds on the trees and the occasional green leaf sprouting in the flower beds.

I also tried out the crutches that Gord let me borrow. Not bad. Not bad at all. More maneuverable than the walker, but not as steady.

maaseru visited in the morning. At about 4 p.m., Beulah came over and we watched two episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - will write up my notes as soon as possible, but not tonight. Then auriaephiala, raynedaze, and commodorified came over and we watched Due South ("Chicago Holiday", parts 1 and 2) and then Doctor Who, "The Fires of Pompeii".

Crutches take some getting used to. Are they under the arm or the hand kind? The under-the-arm kind are more stable, but they're hell on your shoulders.

And...Chicago Holiday. Great music. Annoying teenager. Lots of fun old-married-couple banter, marred by too much time apart. Shot of Fraser looking at Ray as he says, "Sometimes the universe comes to you."

What did you think of Dr. Who? I kind of liked it. I liked the way the Dr. explained that whole funny "Romans with Cockney accents" tradition.

Stubborn teenager! I thought she capitulated rather too easily in the end, but the plot in general was fun.

I would have liked to have seen Vecchio in the story more. He kept disappearing for longs periods of time.

I liked the two villains.

Loved the scene where Fraser is trying to persuade Vecchio to be polite and respectful to the people in the fetish club.

I liked "The Fires of Pompeii" too. I thought it was somewhat uneven, but it had some brilliant lines, and the Doctor was quite lovely. Donna - there are moments I love her, and moments I still find her annoying - such as when she's shrieking and I can't understand a word she's saying.

The language jokes were great.

Those Torchwood and Doctor Who magazines that Jenny sent you were just incredible. What a great gift! Strange how the layout of one of them was so similar to UK movie mags like Empire.

Re the Due South episode ("Chicago Holiday"): it really reminded of classic screwball comedy of the 1930s and 40s. Fraser and Vecchio don't suffer character torture in this one: they just get bounced around by plot twists and a stubborn teenager. And I loved the steady progress of the matchbook.

It had that tone, didn't it? With just a few changes, it could have been one! While watching, I was thinking not so much as 'screwball comedies' - i.e., movies - but the kind of romantic comedy you'd put on stage: take a set (e.g., the fetish club or the hotel room) and an object (the matchbook) and follow the adventures of the people who run round in circles after the same thing. It's a formula I rather like. Especially with a happy ending.

Amazing that the matchbook lasted that long!

Yes, I love those magazines. What fun to browse. And they're new, too, so I can read about episodes of Doctor Who yet to come - usually if any magazine like that makes it to Canada, by the time it gets here the information in it is about six months out of date.

Looks like another nice day today, and I'm off to the doctor shortly.

I think we should all have beautiful weather. But weather is fickle - nobody gets good weather all the time. Too bad.

I've no idea what it will be like tomorrow. It tends to be very changeable this time of year.

Well, so far today we've had snow, rain, what's locally known as a sun break, and enough hail the size of pencil erasers (the kind on the end of the pencil) to cover the ground. Who knows what we'll get next?

Not to mention the fact that it's less than 4 degrees C outside. When our average high for this time of year is almost 16.

I can haz spring now? Plez?

I got a similar weather report today from my friend on Vancouver Island! So weird!

We, on the other hand, have a sunny warm day and the trees suddenly have buds on them. I went out to sun myself in the back of the apartment for 15 minutes or so. It was lovely! Seeing people out walking by the canal, and lots of cyclists.

Not to mention the fact that it's less than 4 degrees C outside.

While we're in mid-twenties.

Let's hope we can all get spring - I've had more than enough of this winter!
