Jack's encouragement. In the literal sense of "the giving of courage". What wouldn't Ianto do for Jack? My question is, does he serve only Jack, or would he do the same for the abstraction of "mankind"? I rather think he wouldn't be inclined to, but that he would think Jack would want him to and so he would. Just like Jack with Nine.
