[livejournal.com profile] cionaudha and I were talking today about how Ianto would show excellent judgement in making purchases - she stopped herself from buying something because she knew Ianto would save up to buy the really well-made, expensive version.

Which got me thinking about the shopping styles of the Torchwood team.

For any given purchase:

  • Ianto would save for the best, custom-made, and get it just the way he wanted it.

  • Gwen would just go ahead and buy it, on impulse, if she thought she liked it.

  • Tosh would think about it, leave it for a future decision, and then forget she'd been thinking about it.

  • Jack would charm someone into giving it to him, and probably, in the end, give it away to someone else. He's not possessive; he loves sharing.

  • Owen would secretly want it, but wouldn't admit it: he would make fun of it and pretend he didn't want it. Then he would secretly buy it online later.1

  • Myfanwy would eat it, with or without barbecue sauce.

  • Rhys would buy it for Gwen.

  • The Doctor would have one just like it in the TARDIS already.

Yep. Exactly! I think you nailed them all!

Modest smile.

It is possible that I think about this kind of thing too much

right on all except the Doctor - he'd have something that served the same purpose but was the intergalactic equivalent of Betamax (which we saw in that one with the TV eating their faces he actually used and reused)

LOL - yes, and he'd probably have different models suitable to different times.

So true. :)

Though I'd ad to Owen's that he'd secretly buy it online later.

I have a special fondness for Myfanwy. I was delighted that we heard her shriek in a recent episode - and I wish we saw more of her!

Neat, and very, very true.

BTW, did you know they are changing the transmission days for the last few eps? There's one tonight, another on Friday, then the following Friday.

Suzie would make the purchase, telling no one about it, and use the thing for ingenious and arcane purposes the sellers never imagined.

Andy would buy it, and show it off in the station with modest pride - and he'd be particularly happy if Gwen admired it.

Thank you. Myfanwy herself amuses me greatly: I love the idea of a resident pterodactyl and I wish we saw more of her.

You know, I'd love to know where the costumers get Ianto's suits. All one brand, or do they mix it up?

I want someone to compile a photo guide to his wardrobe: suits, shirts, waistcoats, ties.

But! But! But that means the season will be over NEXT WEEK!

Wouldn't that be wonderful? I know nothing about clothes - I'd have no idea where to start. But I'd totally love to see it. Ianto's suits are so distinctive. And I love his overcoat.

One of the things I love in the show1 is the way everyone dresses so individualistically. I'd like to see a visual compilation of their outfits - how many shirts does Jack have, and in how many colours? How many sets of braces? One greatcoat - how many vests?

How many different T-shirts does Owen have, and what's on them?

And so on. With the screencaps online, it wouldn't be difficult to trace, just sort of time-consuming. But fun.

Well, perhaps in my post-season mourning I'll do that.

(I know-- Ianto's overcoat is perfect. It's just an overcoat, but wow.)

He makes it look stunning. He wears it like battle-dress. You see him in his overcoat, you know he means business.

Many years, nay, decades ago, Monty Python compared the brain capacity of a group of BBC programme planners to that of a penguin. To their disadvantage, needless to say.

Monty Python should know.

It's a source of endless amusement, really - what will they think of next? (The BBC, I mean, not Monty Python.)

They do much better than the CBC, but they seem to do it randomly and by accident.

Bless them, the Beeb often doesn't have much idea about what it has, both good and bad. The
Radio Times
is hyping
Ashes to Ashes
and no longer making such a big deal out of
Torchwood. A2A
is seriously meh, while TW is a lot more fun than last year, for all its irritatingness, and getting way better ratings.

Interesting how people tend to find what's good, even when it isn't being hyped. I never would have found Life or Battlestar Galactica or even Doctor Who if people hadn't told me about them.
