I read a comic yesterday that I'd never heard of before: Colleen Coover's Small Favors #4, from 2001. How on earth did I miss this one? It's billed as a 'girly porno comic book' but I would think 'romantic sex comedy' is a more accurate description. I picked it up largely because I thought the protagonist Annie looked like Hopey from Love and Rockets, a long-time favourite bi-girl character - and because erotic comics about, by and for girls is pretty much my kind of thing.

The good thing about it: it's cute, it's fun, it's sexy, and it makes a person feel good about girlsex and about life.

The bad thing about it: I was somewhat disappointed that Annie's cute girlfriend, Nibbil, isn't a real girl. She's a... a sort of anthropomorphization of Annie's sexual conscience. Which doesn't fit so well with my own sense of sex fantasy. And, well, it's so very, very cute.

Oh, this sounds good. I'm going to pick it up or order it if I have to - I'll check the local comics stores tomorrow. Thanks a lot for the link!

Yes, I hope you enjoy it! I'm hoping to find the earlier issues, but I'm not sure how: they seem to be out of print. Worth looking for, anyway.

Yeah, I've seen it reviewed online, and I like the concept, but it does look awfully cute. I mean, porn should be raunchy, too, even if it's feminist-approved.

Maybe it comes under the heading of "you can't have everything", or "you can't have everything at once". I liked it, but it was ... definitely sugary, and I prefer a little spice.

Doesn't stop us from wanting what we want. I want hardcore with good characterization, powerplay but light on the fetishes, women who don't look fake, and guys who are kinda bishi or who are such awesome characters that I don't care if they're, like, bears.

Which may be TMI ; )

Nope, not TMI, I like all that too, I think, and more besides. My tastes are... what, wide? Diverse? Flexible? So I like the sweetness of Small Favors but it does seem vaguely insufficient, though sexy.

Like pairings, I'd go for a wide range of porn if it were *good* in a way that porn very rarely is, from what I've seen. Since I don't have the time or the budget, and since porn isn't very important to me, there's no way I'm going to go searching for stuff that's satisfactory. I bet things are better in the 51st century ...

Since I'm never sure what other people mean by porn - and they seem to mean a wide range of different things - I tend to avoid the word. I don't think I like any commercial/professional porn, though there is the occasional pornlike thing I do like, like Small Favors. There are many sex stories online that I love, mostly slash and/or fanfic, and it's a matter of finding the right authors, sources, and communities. I like really, really, really well-written and highly characterized porn. Authors like Thamiris (in Smallville) and Sebastian (in The Professionals).

I'm sure things are much better in the 51st century. In a lot of ways.
Not sure about those 'terrible creatures' they were at war with, though...
